She’s at it again. Olivia Newton-John became a major sensation in 1978 when she appeared with John Travolta in the blockbuster movie Grease. Today she’s still doing the concert thing, performing at the Flamingo Las Vegas from now until August 30, 2014.
Apparently it’s no coincidence that the name of her show is Summer Nights, because she sings that song from Grease as part of her show. Some of the other songs she does from that soundtrack are Hopelessly Devoted To You and You’re the One That I Want. Her 1980 movie Xanadu also produced some good songs in her repertoire, including Magic and the single Xanadu.
Olivia had other hits outside of her movies, and she works some of those into her performances, including Have You Never Been Mellow and Let Me Be There, as well as If You Love Me Let Me Know and I Honestly Love You. What else she does, you’ll only know if you go there and take it in.
Like most Boomer stories, hers had its ups and downs. Between her music successes she had to handle being diagnosed with breast cancer. After making a full recovery, Olivia became a strong advocate for cancer testing and related public service efforts. But she was only knocked down and not out, so she worked her way back up. Now she rocks and rolls in Vegas. Maybe that kind of fighting spirit came from growing up in Melbourne, Australia. If so, then good on ya, Olivia!
