Arnold Schwarzenegger - Born July 30, 1947 ...in Thal, Austria to Gustav Schwarzenegger who was the local police chief, and to mother Aurelia. He then moved to the USA in 1968. |
Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Early Years No sooner had Arnold planted two strong legs on American soil at the age of 21 than he won the bodybuilding title of Mr. Universe, and went on to win the Mr. Olympia title seven times. He is shown flexing his assets here. Parlaying a bit of fame into a bit of fortune, Arnold threw an animal pelt over his shoulder and marched into Manhattan in the 1970 movie Hercules in New York. A critical success it was not, but it began a series of muscular movie roles which culminated in his breakthrough turn as the Terminator in that 1984 blockbuster. All of this was capped by the famous promise, "I'll be back." Arnold Schwarzenegger Terminator movie Arnold Schwarzenegger Terminator movie |

Arnold Schwarzenegger in Recent Years And back he was, in two more Terminator movies, some comedies, and some surprisingly good science fiction roles. Schwarzenegger seemed firmly ensconced in the Hollywood pantheon of legendary actors. Then the fickle finger of fate tickled his fancy and Arnold changed direction. In 2003 he was elected Governor of California in a special election, and hasn't looked back. This made for a surreal scene the next year when the previously-filmed Around the World in Eighty Days finally appeared in theaters. For a number of months the impeccably tailored governor was appearing on TV screens while his alter ego, the over-the-top Prince Hapi, performed on movie screens. Now term limits have finally put the Governator, as he was popularly known, back on the streets in 2011. So which direction will he go? He has already shown that a person's future is largely in his (or her) own strong hands. He could move on to the Senate, be back in movies, or head down to Venice's Muscle Beach and try to resurrect his original job. All he will say for sure is, "I'll be back."
